Traveling through Tennessee and North Carolina, May 11-22, 2005
The Isata Motorhome owners group had a rally in Nashville, Tn on May13-14, 2005. We left home on May 11 arriving 550 miles later in Nashville at the KOA on May 12th. Isata get-togethers are informal affairs where we sit around exchanging ideas and ogling the other Isatas. Dynamax did give all attendees a super travel mug and Dave gave all a pen to take notes with. Dave Cushing organized this get-together - Thanks Dave.
What's an Isata? It is a new breed of motorhome, well designed, relatively plush, and much revered by their owners. This is ours in our campsite at Nashville.
As you can see, Dave worked hard organizing the affair and was still working hard at the rally with his computer, printer, and wireless internet. Others went shopping or sight seeing or just kicked back and relaxed. Life as it should be,
We had one formal meeting with much milling around and potluck food before the start.
We did manage to get everyone away from the food long enough for this group photo.

Saturday evening most of the group went to the Grand Ole Opry just a couple miles down the road. This was worth the trip all by itself.
Sunday morning we left Nashville and headed for Townsend in the Great Smoky Mountains for a couple days.
We stayed at the Lazy Daze Campground in Townsend. The store at this campground has the world's best soft ice cream at more than reasonable prices.
Lazy Daze was about 10 miles from the entrance to Cades Cove in the park. The road on the way up to the park had many mountain streams and waterfalls. A few of the waterfalls and streams are shown below.
Cades cove is quite foggy early in the morning which makes the scenery even more attractive. Can you find the deer in the photo below?
Cades Cove teemed with deer
and wild turkeys.
The Park Service has restored a number of pioneer dwellings and structures in the park including this old mill.
Horseback riding is offered in the park. At night the horses are turned out to pasture and taken in to the riding stables in the morning.
One morning as we were riding through the park, we came across this black bear which just ambled away from us and absolutely refused to show his face.
We also found this pileated woodpecker foraging on the ground.
Townsend has a logging and railroad museum where we found this old steam locomotive on display.
After leaving the Great Smoky Mountains we headed east to Asheville, NC for a couple days of visitin relatives.
While in Asheville we found these presumably rare pink ladyslippers growing in the forest around the campground.
We also found this goose family right out in the open on the only rainy dreary day we had the whole trip.
One can only take so much of the easy life so we had to head back home and to the daily grind.
